What’s on the menu: New Burnaby restaurants on our radar in April

From pizza to poké, here's what we are excited to try.

New Burnaby restaurants keep popping up and we’re here to keep you updated. From Vietnamese to Persian cuisine, pizza, Korean fried chicken, and so much more, here are some of the newly opened and soon-to-be-opened restaurants in Burnaby worth checking out.

R + D Kitchen

R + D Kitchen is a new concept from White Spot looking to take inspiration from local ingredients. In a press release, Executive Chef James Kennedy said, “At R + D Kitchen we’ll be exploring even more flavours, curating unique recipes, and incorporating fresh local ingredients into a widely appealing menu.”  R + D still promises to serve up White Spot classics, but you can also expect to see some more unique food items as well. R + D Kitchen is set to open in The Amazing Brentwood in May 2022.

Suren Cafe

Suren Cafe is the latest Persian restaurant to come to Burnaby. They offer numerous Persian delicacies like their Fava Bean Rice with Lamb Shank and Kobideh Kabob. The team behind Suren told the Beacon that the restaurant “provides all kinds of delicious Persian foods for every taste. We have veggie kebab and vegan items as well.”

Sushi On

The Port Coquitlam-based restaurant Sushi On just opened their newest location in Burnaby. Sushi On is known best for their 48 different types of specialty rolls like their Thor Dragon roll, Popcorn roll, and Angry Bird roll. Additionally, they have amazing appetizers and draft beer.

Wild Flour Pizza Co

Sourdough lover rejoice! Wild Flour Pizza Co opened this month. This pizza joint specializes in sourdough pizza crusts that are absolutely delicious. Wild Flour Pizza Co comes from the same people who opened Scratch Kitchen back in 2018. Customer favourites from Scratch Kitchen will be making an appearance on the Wild Flour Pizza Co’s menu, but there will also be some new pizzas focusing more on Pacific Northwest flavours and ingredients.

B&D Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine

B&D Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine is the latest Vietnamese restaurant opening in Burnaby. It’s owned by Bella and Dat Nguyen who moved to Canada as international students five years ago. “You will definitely see the usual Pho or Spicy Beef Noodles (Bun Bo Hue). Besides that, you will see some items not yet introduced in the community like our Beef Hot Pot or Mini Coconut Rice Cake,”Dat Nguyen told the Beacon in an earlier interview.

Kokoro Tokyo Mazesoba

This brothless ramen spot is a must-visit for any fans of the popular noodle dish. Kokoro Tokyo Mazesoba has 11 different ingredients you can get with your mazesoba like cubed pork chashu, spicy minced pork, bamboo shoots, and raw egg yolk. In addition to their mazesoba line-up, they also feature classic ramen, donburi and karaage bao buns.

Chibop specializes in various Bibimbap dishes, Bulgogi, Japchae, Soontufu, jeyuk-bokkeum-spicy pork, and Jjambbong-Korean spicy seafood noodle soup. In addition, you can expect to find classics like Korean fried chicken (KFC) on the menu  with flavours like soy-garlic and cheese. Korean eatery Chibop is expected to open sometime in April.

Claudio’s Ristorante

After a long wait, Claudio’s Ristorante is expecting to open its doors in May 2022. Stefano Magagnin, Pasta Amore’s general manager, said the new eatery will “showcase the very best in both Italian and local ingredients, the newly inspired menu can be described as “Dinner at Nonna’s” but elevated.” You can expect lots of family-style share plates, Venetian-style cicchetti, and brick-oven pizzas.
