7 bakeries in Burnaby you have to try as it gets colder

Carbs, carbs, carbs! Who doesn’t love ‘em? At this time of year, when the weather’s getting colder and Christmas is nearly upon us, we all feel a hankering for baked goods.

Here’s some bakeries in Burnaby that you have to check out the next time you’re craving pie, cake, or freshly made cookies. Did we leave some bakeries off the list? Let us know which ones are your favourites at [email protected].

This legendary Port Moody-based bakery recently opened a location in Burnaby Heights, at the former site of their sister cafe Caffe Divano. But never fear, because if anything, your access to baked goods has only improved with the change. Gabi & Jules serves up mouthwateringly delicious pies (both sweet and savoury), crostatas, croissants, cookies, brownies, and more. Hungry yet? Us too.

And if you’re looking for some healthy and tasty breakfast options, take home a bag of their house-made granola!

Location: 4568 Hastings St, Burnaby

If you’ve ever been to Metrotown (and who hasn’t?) you’ve likely seen a line up outside this tiny little bakery, just next door to Superstore. And for good reason. The pineapple buns, almond puffs, tortes, biscottis, and more are completely irresistible.

They also sell whole loaves—and once you’ve tasted the difference fresh baked bread makes, you’ll leave the packaged stuff behind for good.

And if you’ve got a special occasion or birthday to celebrate, their beautifully baked and decorated cakes are sure to be crowd-pleasers!

Location: 1120C-4720 Kingsway, Burnaby

Along with serving up delicious baked goods (trust us, you HAVE to try the almond croissants), Small Victory at The Amazing Brentwood is the perfect spot to grab a quick breakfast, meet up with a friend for coffee, or even just work from “home” with your laptop.

They also have incredible savoury pastries up on offer, like quiches and chicken pot pies, and sell freshly-baked loaves and baguettes.

Location: 1214–4580 Brentwood Boulevard, Burnaby

Punk Rock Pastries is a Burnaby icon, but it’s also a little… eccentric. Before you click on their website or Instagram, be warned that some of the pastries and donuts you’ll see are a little NSFW (not safe for work).

Nevertheless, their baked goods are DELICIOUS and are a staple in the area for good reason. From savoury and vegan options to cookie pies and their famous “crazy weird treats”, you’re sure to find something you love here!

Location: 5548 Hastings St, Burnaby

This European bakery in the Middlegate area serves up Balkan favourites like burek, cevapi, baklava, and fresh baked pita bread! Reviewers have given the bakery a stellar rating and recommending taking some of the burek home to freeze and heat up whenever you’re craving it.

Make sure to try the Bosnian coffee as well!

Location: 6329 Beresford St, Burnaby

If you want beautiful, delicately crafted sweets and treats, look no further than the iconic Chez Christophe. Not only does this sophisticated bakery put out incredibly designed desserts for every special holiday and event, they have a wide range of cakes, pastries, and chocolates perfect for when you’re simply craving something sweet.

Make sure to stop by for a coffee as well—it’s the perfect spot for a Sunday morning date!

Location: 4717 Hastings St, Burnaby

This tiny French pastry shop is hidden away from the hustle and bustle on the quiet side of Metrotown, and walking in feels like you’ve crossed the Atlantic and stepped right in to Paris! Make sure to try the almond croissant and the peach gallet if you’re stopping by for a mid-morning pastry.

They also serve a beautiful selection of macarons, chocolates, cakes, and coffees!
