We’ve got more details on the huge bubble tea festival happening in Burnaby this summer
Bubble tea lovers, mark your calendars! The Vancouver Bubble Tea Festival is on and we got a sneak peek of what is to come at their press conference this past weekend.
The Vancouver Bubble Tea Festival organized by the Canadian Community Action and Restorative Empowerment Society and is a celebration of the popular drink that hailed from Taiwan. It will be held at the Swangard Stadium in Burnaby from July 22 to 23, 2022.
The event is a combination of a night market and a fair, featuring a plethora of bubble tea vendors, food stalls and trucks, themed games and activities, and live entertainment. As a nod to the bubble tea’s Taiwanese origins, displays of iconic Taiwanese scenery will be set up for attendees to quench their thirst for travelling and take fun pictures. The event will also feature a supercar show as well as the finals for the Taike rock music competition. And what better time to do a bubble tea taste test than a bubble tea festival? Attendees will be able to vote on their favourite bubble teas at the event using the Fantuan app, so prep your tastebuds!
Vendor and sponsor applications are open until April 30, 2022, and the list of participating businesses currently includes Truedan (Jenjudan), Chatime, Yi Fang, Kurotaki, Sago Togo and BlackBall.
When it comes to bubble tea, it should come as no surprise that the single-use straws and plastic cups that make the trendy drink so accessible and easy to drink contribute to Canada’s plastic waste problem. With the City of Vancouver recently introducing a fee on single-use cups, the City of Richmond implementing a plastics ban, and Burnaby also looking to introduce a single-use plastics bylaw, we are told that the festival will be collaborating with the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation Canada to educate the public on recycling in support of going green.
Admission is $10 for adults and free for children 8 and under, and tickets can be purchased at the gate or via the Fantuan app. For more info and updates, be sure to follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
