Burnaby is a city of carbs, so here is our list of the best places to eat carbs

During the Beacon’s first panel on Burnaby’s identity, one of our panellists Andy Yan said that Burnaby is a ‘city of carbs’—and we couldn’t agree more. There are so many different restaurants serving delicious pasta, pizza, pie, and even soda (sorry to break it to you, but soda does have carbs). So here is our list of the best places to eat carbs in Burnaby!

You can’t go wrong with pizza, and Burnaby’s newest pizza shop has some of the best in the city. Wild Flour Pizza Co serves sourdough pizza in an assortment of traditional and unique varieties. Some worthy mentions are their Blue Pear which is served with white sauce, mozzarella, roasted pears, gorgonzola piccante, caramelized onions, fresh arugula, and thyme burnt honey, and their Butter Paneer with butter masala sauce, mozzarella, caramelized onions, paneer, spiced crema, fenugreek, cilantro, and a garlic “naan” crust.

You can’t go wrong with ramen, and Marutama Ramen has some of the best in Burnaby. We really like their rich and creamy broth and their Cha-shu Tamago Ramen. They have nine different kinds of ramen to order and you can always order more noodles for $1.75 if you’re feeling like you need those extra carbs.

We spend all of our time just waiting for Trattoria’s Tratt Tuesday special. For just $16 you can get any pasta for dine-in or pick-up. We’re a big fan of the Spaghetti and Signature Meatballs in their truffle cream sauce, but you can’t go wrong with anything on their menu. They also serve other yummy carb treats like pizza and pasta platters for those who can’t choose just one pasta to try.

Joyful Seafood Restaurant

Joyful Seafood Restaurant should be your go-to spot the next time you’ve got a dim sum craving. We can’t stop thinking about their steamed crystal prawn and steamed pork shui mai dumplings. Joyful Seafood Restaurant serves dim sum until 3 pm, but there are plenty of rice and noodles dishes available for dinner that we know you’ll also love (like their sticky fried rice with beef).

Address: 5665 Kingsway

50’s Burgers does burgers right. They make their buns, sirloin patties, fries, and pretty much everything else all in-store and fresh to order. Also, the whole store is designed to look like a 50’s diner and there is even a “burger bar” for you to sit at. They have plenty of different burger options and some secret menu items. We don’t know what it means, but we’ve been told to say “Landslide” the next time we order.

Address: 7741 Edmonds Street

Nothing says Burnaby more than Me-n-Ed’s Pizza Parlour. This restaurant has been the place to go for all family celebrations and is still going strong with delicious pizza options. We love the pierogi pizza which comes with a side of sour cream for dipping. If you’re feeling nostalgic you definitely need to visit Me-n-Ed’s.

Address: 7110 Hall Avenue

Like we said in our intro, soda has carbs. And there is no better place to get soda in Burnaby than Glenburn Soda Fountain. They make all their soda by hand and also serve ice cream floats and ice cream sodas. The difference between an ice cream float and an ice cream soda is the ice cream soda has the ice cream mixed in with soda water to create a more evenly distributed drink. You can also make the drink your own with many different combinations, or choose one of their ice cream soda suggestions. We really enjoy the Black and White, which is chocolate soda with vanilla ice cream.

Address: 4090 Hastings Street

For whatever kind of Indian food you’re craving, Indian Bombay Bistro has it all. You can’t go wrong with an order of Butter Chicken, but we’d suggest trying something different for once like their Prawn Sahi Masala which are prawns cooked in a creamy curry, with onions, green peppers, fresh tomatoes & spices.

Address: 7558 6th Street

Gabi & Jules is a new pie shop that will be taking over their sister cafe Caffe Divano in the next few days and they serve some amazing baked goods. We really like their Crostatas, which is Italian for “hand pie.” They serve them in sweet flavours like their honey roasted peach with a walnut crumb or savoury flavours like their pesto, gruyere & tomato. Be sure to follow them on Instagram for their official opening date.

Address: 4568 Hastings Street

What we love about Agra Tandoori is their affordable and delicious lunch specials. For under $15 you can order either their vegetarian or non-vegetarian specials. The vegetarian option comes with rice, naan, dal, raita and two vegetarian specials of the day while the non-vegetarian option has your choice of one non-veg dish, rice, naan, dal and one vegetarian special of the day.

Address: 3790 Canada Way

You can’t make a list of the best places for carbs in Burnaby without including Anton’s Pasta Bar. They have some delicious pasta and huge portions (we tried to finish one and we’re not saying it’s impossible, but it’s most likely impossible). If you finish their huge order of dinner pasta you get the honour of taking home one of their Anton pens. Let us know if you manage to conquer this mountain of pasta.

Address: 4260 Hastings Street

Not only does EveryDay Cookies serve unique cookie creations, but they also have supersized cookies if you’re feeling extra hungry. We’d recommend either their s’mores cookies or classic chocolate chip cookies. Their kitchen is based in Burnaby but they only do online orders for pickup or delivery.
