Join other plant enthusiasts for the South Burnaby Garden Club’s annual plant sale happening on April 30 from 1o am to 2 pm. You’ll be able to purchase a variety of plants like flowering annuals and perennials, vegetables, herbs, flowering bushes, refurbished garden tools, and much more all for a low price.

The Shadbolt Centre for the Arts will be showing dance performances by resident companies, students and guests for International Dance Day. This event is being held on April 30 from 11 am to 2 pm and is free with no registration required.

Artist Nora Vaillant will be at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts on May 1 from 1 to 3 pm making yunomi, which are Japanese cups used for tea. You’ll be able to learn more about this art form and also the cultural exchange between potters in Burnaby and Burnaby’s sister city Kushiro, Japan.

The Burnaby Festival of Learning has loads of different family activities and will start on May 6 and go on until May 10. Some highlights include pop-up art displays, a Soundwalk through Deer Lake Park, cedar weaving workshops, and so much more. May 7 is International Astronomy Day and the SFU Trottier Observatory has some fun events planned to celebrate. On May 6, from 9 to 11 pm, you can enjoy one of SFU’s Starry Nights where they open the observatory and let people look out of the giant telescope. Then, on May 7 you can sign up for loads of events happening throughout the day. Learn all about the life cycle of stars, the size of our solar system (spoilers: it’s big), astrophotography, and more! This event is free and you can register for it online.

Burnaby Blooms once again returns after the success of the 2019 event. Head over to Deer Lake Park from May 7–10 to enjoy “eco-art installation curated by local artist Nickie Lewis, educational walking tours, speaker series, local entertainment, plant sales and activities for all ages.” This event is free and the festivities start at 10 am. There will also be other micro-events held throughout May to celebrate.

The Y4Y Mentorship Society is hosting a free event online to teach you about graphic design and its five basic principles.
