Burnaby Society to End Homelessness to receive portable shower and restroom station

The Burnaby Society to End Homelessness will soon receive a portable shower and washroom station for visitors to use.

According to the society’s 2021 Annual General Meeting report, the 12-foot, two-station combination shower and restroom trailer was made possible by a Union of BC Municipalities grant approved in May.

The station includes insulated and heated waste water tanks, UV light disinfection, a tankless water heater, touchless faucets, anti-bacterial walls, and an air fan heating system.

In a previous interview with the Beacon, Carol-Ann Flanagan said the station, which is being manufactured in Canada, was expected to arrive sooner, but there was a delay due to a parts supply problem.

“The minute it arrives, that first Thursday in the Outreach Centre, it will be open,” she said. “Right now, the game plan is opening it once a week, but as soon as I get volunteers to come on, we will try to open it two to three times a week for people.”

The Outreach Resource Centre is open twice a week. On Wednesdays, there is a pop-up centre in South Burnaby and on Thursdays, the space opens its permanent location at Southside Community Church (7156 Walker St).

In an email response to the Beacon on Thursday, Flanagan said she expects the shower station to arrive and be operating within the next three weeks.
