Burnaby Readers’ Choice Awards: Best Middle Eastern cuisine winners

We’re continuing with our Beacon’s Readers’ Choice Award category winners

We’ve announced the top restaurants from our 2023 Beacon’s Readers’ Choice Awards, presented by Tourism Burnaby. Now it’s time to highlight some more winners by category.

We’re breaking down the top three restaurant winners in each of the 32 categories included in this year’s awards, as voted by you.

Here are the winners of the best Middle Eastern cuisine in Burnaby.

First place: Cazba Persian Grill

This small Persian takeout counter in the Amazing Brentwood is best known for their long meat skewers (your choice of mixed beef, lamb, chicken, steak or a combination of two) served with a hefty portion of rice and grilled tomatoes. Order it alongside their house made hummus or garlicky mast-o moosir yogurt for a match made in heaven.

Second place: Anatolia’s Gate

Anatolia’s Gate is a must-try for Turkish specialities like flame-grilled lavash bread, kabob sofrasi and guvesh (a saucy, cheesy baked stew with made with meat, fish or veggies), their menu filled with colourful platters and entrées. Not sure what to go for? Order the Padisha’s table special, which gives you a wonderful sample of everything on their menu.

Exploring the culinary crossroads between Afghan and Turkish cuisine, this dine-in and takeout counter serves a selection of donair, mantu (Afghan dumplings stuffed with beef and onion) and platters that come with grilled meat, rice, salad, flatbread and three kinds of sauces—garlic, hummus and tzatziki.
