Nov. 18-20 Deer Lake Craft Fair
The Deer Lake Craft Fair is being held at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts from Nov. 18-20. There will be over 40 local B.C. artisans at the market, including glass blowers, sculptors, patissiers, jam makers, fashion, and jewelry designers. This is the perfect place to get a head start on some holiday shopping.

Nov. 20-Jan. 2 Holiday Lights Display
Lights will be going up all over Burnaby starting on Nov. 20. You can visit your favourite parks for some beautiful scenery and maybe the chance to snap your next award-winning Instagram photo. You can find a full interactive map of all the places displaying lights here.
Nov. 20 Shrub Making Workshop
Not to be confused with the leafy variety, Join Heidi Kuhn, founder of Mixers & Elixirs, for a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn to make shrubs. A shrub is a fruit concentrate made with an intriguing blend of local fruits, organic apple cider vinegar, a touch of sugar and fresh herbs. You’ll start by learning the history of these tangy mixers, then study and sample some popular recipes before concocting your own creation. Each participant will take home their own custom shrub. All supplies will be included.

Nov. 22. Upcycled Winter Decorations
Learn to make fun and festive winter decorations using upcycled materials! Choose from an array of examples or get creative and make your own holiday decor. All supplies will be provided, however, participants are encouraged to bring materials they’d like to upcycle (toilet paper rolls, ribbon, fabric swatches, old greeting cards, etc.).

Nov. 25 Pro-D Day Toonie Skate
Head over to the Bill Copeland Sports Centre for a toonie skate from 12-3:30pm. Skate and helmet rentals are included in the admission price.

Nov. 26-Jan. 2 Heritage Christmas
The Burnaby Village Museum will be turning into an old-school Christmas paradise starting Nov. 26. Wander the museum’s 10-acre venue and take in all the seasonal entertainment, demonstrations and activities. Take part in our bird-themed scavenger hunt including a menagerie of adorned larger-than-life Eco-sculptures. Enjoy a meal or a treat at the Ice Cream Parlour or other offerings from Cravings Kettle Corn. As always, admission to the museum is free but you’re encouraged to plan your visit in advance because this event can get very busy.

Nov. 26 Edmonds Festival of Lights
Visit the Edmonds Community Centre to celebrate the season at a free family-friendly event. There will be jugglers, stilt walkers, a visit from Santa, and holiday crafts for the kiddos. There will also be festive music along with hot chocolate, popcorn, cotton candy and hot dogs served by the fabulous Burnaby firefighters. Then the big tree will be lit at 5:15pm.

Dec. 3 Cedar Woven Reindeer
In this workshop, you’ll learn to make your own woven cedar reindeer ornament. This class will weave together cultural knowledge about cedar and its many culturally significant and revered uses.

Learn the art of wet felting by making felted soap in this hands-on workshop perfect for kids and adults alike! Felted soap not only looks fantastic, its wool coat helps soap last longer, makes slippery bars easier to handle, gently exfoliates the skin, and can replace a washcloth or bath pouf in the shower. This course includes all the supplies necessary to make two bars of felted soap.

Dec. 17 Winter Fun
The Willingdon Community Centre will be hosting an afternoon of winter fun on Dec. 17 from 1-3pm. There will be an Elfie Selfie station, holiday crafts, letters for Santa, active games, entertainment, refreshments, and more!

Dec. 17 Swim with Santa
Did you know Santa could swim? Well, now you do. You can take a dip with Santa Claus from 1:30-3:30pm at the Eileen Dailly Leisure Pool & Fitness Centre. There will also be some seasonal crafts for you to complete outside of the pool.

Dec. 31 New Year’s Skate
The Kensignton Complex will be holding a New Year’s toonie skate from 12-3pm. Skate and helmet rentals are included in the admission price.
