Explore Burnaby: Byrne Creek Ravine Trail is a hiking gem in the city

Burnaby is filled with incredible options for hikes in the city, and the Byrne Creek Ravine Loop Trail is one of them.

We’re only a few weeks away from spring, meaning it will finally be time to put on the runners and hit the trails.

Luckily, Burnaby is filled with incredible options for hikes in the city, and the Byrne Creek Ravine Loop Trail is one of them.

The trail is a 3.2km walk that circles around an area of Byrne Creek.

Start at Ron McLean Park and go down the stairs, which will take you down to the forest (if you go down the stairs first, you won’t have to climb them up on the last leg of your hike).

Most of the beginning of the trail is paved but it slowly transitions into a rockier and narrow terrain, and there is one section that gets quite steep (but that’s really the only difficult part).

The trail is a great option if you’re looking for a great hike close to home. You’ll descend into the forest and feel like you’ve been whisked away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

In total, the loop takes about one hour to complete.

If you’re not looking to do the full hike, going up and down the stairs a few times is a great workout (and kind of like Burnaby’s own version of a mini Coquitlam crunch).
