Kingsway and Royal Oak: An intersection for foodies

If you’ve ever driven by or walked past Kingsway and Royal Oak Avenue, you’ll know this is a major intersection in the city, but you may have also noticed all the great places to eat surrounding this busy crossing.

If you’re ever in the area and want to stop and explore places to eat, here are some recommended restaurants to check out around Kingsway and Royal Oak.

This global chain originated in Kawaguchi, Japan, in 2001 and established its first Vancouver outpost in 2013. Now, with a Maruhachi (previously known as Marutama) location in Burnaby, you can stick close to home while enjoying its large variety of ramen made with fresh noodles, chicken broth, and aosa (sea lettuce) shipped directly from Japan. Maruhachi came highly recommended by several Burnaby Beacon readers, so you know this is the spot to go for delectable, creamy, ramen. Take note, there is usually a very long lineup outside, so arrive a bit early or be prepared to wait!Address: 5278 Kingsway

A great spot for hot pot, the Boiling Point serves up a variety of broths that can be combined with a number of proteins and veggies—perfect for a cold day!

This isn’t your typical Indian eatery. Indian Wok restaurant combines the flavours of China and India and offers up some amazing fusion dishes. From spring rolls to pakoras and noodle plates this Indo-Chinese combination is definitely worth trying.

Known for its awesome prices and its wide variety of flavours, Teapressu is a Burnaby favourite. Try the shaved ice milk tea and the milk tea swirl ice cream if you’re looking for something new.

This delightful European deli is where you’ll be able to find meats, sweets, and other treats from the Balkans. Those who frequent this spot recommend Boemma’s homemade cookies!

Another great spot for ramen is located just a few doors down from Maruhachi. It’s got delicious ramen (we recommend trying the miso broth) well as delectable donburis. This spot gets busy too, so don’t be surprised if there’s a wait.

Cafe 106 has everything you need from a cafe. Yummy coffee, tasty pastries, and a place to sit down and enjoy a coffee date with a friend or solo. We’d recommend trying the Nutella latte with a basil pesto chicken breast sandwich. We promise you won’t be disappointed.

Our very own Marco Ovies has covered Cafe Sweets and Beans in the past, and he’s only got good things to say. This spot is a bit of a hidden gem tucked away on Kingsway. It serves up everything from pasta to waffles and even fried chicken. Cafe Sweets and Beans is a must-try!

This is the first high tea to come to Burnaby and consists of a fancy atmosphere and delicate finger foods. Eating here feels straight out of Bridgerton. It has your classic tea options alongside fancier ones like the Creamy Earl Grey with vanilla flavour and bergamot oil, or the English Cream with toffee caramels. If you want to dress up and feel fancy, then this is the best place to get tea in Burnaby.
