Where and how to observe Remembrance Day in Burnaby

Every year on National Indigenous Veterans Day (Nov 8) and Remembrance Day (Nov 11), we pause to honour and remember those who have served and continue to serve Canada during times of war, conflict and peace. There will be no public ceremonies in Burnaby this year due to the ongoing pandemic, but we have put together a list of some activities you can participate in to pay your respects.

The city of Burnaby is not hosting an official Remembrance Day event this year. Instead, it is asking residents to Remember in Place and pause for quiet reflection wherever they may be on Nov 11 at 11 am. A reminder that Burnaby City Hall will be closed on Nov 11. City arts facilities will also be closed. Some recreation facilities will be open but please visit the facility’s web page to confirm.

Wearing a Poppy from now until Remembrance Day is also a simple gesture to show our respect for and recognition of veterans. Poppies are easily accessible all over Burnaby and at your local Legion branches. Check out this list of 2021 Poppy Campaign partners to find the poppies closest to you.

Take some time to share stories and learn more about individual veterans on this official commemoration page. 2021 is also the 100th anniversary of the poppy. Take time to learn more about the poppy’s important meaning here.
