Spring = sun, runs, and beer tasting fun

Spring has officially sprung! While it may not be beach weather just yet, there’s a familiar buzzy feeling around Burnaby in the form of lots and lots of events. Here’s a few this week that we’ve got our eye on.
Hosted by Cheap Thrills, the Rec Room Karaoke night is your chance to show off your vocal chops and cover your favourite songs. Event takes place every Thursday.

Head to McGill Library to watch The Peanuts Movie with other kids and families. Recommended for ages four and up. Kids nine years and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Harumatsuri translates to spring festival in Japanese and focuses on Japanese arts and culture. Harumatsuri will also include a number of Anime Evolution events on a smaller scale like panels, videos, and vendors.

This themed run offers a 5km/10km Run/Walk as well as a 1km Kids Run/Walk around scenic Burnaby Lake Park.
Explore the trails, enjoy a DJ, prize giveaways and more! The route is for all ages and abilities and the event is pet friendly.

Jokers Canada is back with another night of live comedy at The Rec Room on Sunday, March 26! Beacon readers get 25% off tickets with the code BEACON25.

Learn about the basic off-flavours of beer with Certified Cicerone Morgan Miller of Studio Brewing. The class, offered in partnership with Bite of Burnaby, includes a tour of the brewery and a free pint or flight after the training.

Looking for something to get up to with the kids for Spring Break? Head to Burnaby Village Museum to take part in some awesome family-friendly activities, like community loom weaving, a steam engine demo and more.

Everyone’s favourite ogre and ogre princess will be taking the stage in Burnaby next week.
The drama department at Burnaby North Secondary is getting set to perform its rendition of Shrek the Musical at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts from March 29 to 31.

Tickets: Tickets are available via the Shadbolt Box Office in person, by phone (604-205-3000), or online. Tickets are $15 for students and $18 for adults (prices include the box office service fee).
A foodie’s favourite time of year! There are 49 restaurants participating in this year’s Bite of Burnaby festival, and menus to fit every budget. You can read more about Bite of Burnaby here.

From the Burnaby Art Gallery: “This exhibition is a survey of the intricate, meticulous and visually-compelling work of Vancouver-based artist Karin Jones. Jones’ work ‘Worn,’ on loan from the Royal Ontario Museum, is a Victorian mourning dress crafted from synthetic hair, evoking the complexity of African identity shaped by colonial displacement, slavery and oppression.”

This incredible Marvel exhibit featuring displays dedicated to all of your favourite Avengers is open at The Amazing Brentwood until late May.
But there’s lots more to see and do: guests will also complete training so they too can assemble with the Avengers!
*Please note, the exhibit is currently closed but expects to resume operations within the next few days. Anyone who purchased tickets during the closure can exchange them for another date.
