April is finally here! The days are becoming longer and the sun is poking its head out more and more. Celebrate the good times with these events across town, from special beer releases to pet painting workshops and more.
Join Steamworks tonight for a special brew, live music, food truck eats, and more! This month’s beer of honour is a grapefruit IPA. Plus—the Steamworks food truck is offering up a special menu in collaboration with Bite of Burnaby.

Everyone’s favourite ogre and ogre princess will be taking the stage in Burnaby next week.
The drama department at Burnaby North Secondary is getting set to perform its rendition of Shrek the Musical at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts from March 29 to 31. Tickets are available via the Shadbolt Box Office in person, by phone (604-205-3000), or online. Tickets are $15 for students and $18 for adults (prices include the box office service fee).

Pho 99 at SFU is raising money for BC Children's Hospital this Friday! While quantities last, they're giving away bowls of pho by donation—and you decide how much you pay.

There’s only two days left to enjoy Bite of Burnaby—a culinary festival celebrating the diversity of Burnaby’s food scene! There are 49 restaurants participating in this year’s Bite of Burnaby festival, and menus to fit every budget. You can read more about Bite of Burnaby here.

Celebrate the season of cherry blossoms at the O-Hanami Festival at Nikkei Centre. Take part in Japanese cultural activities such as a tea ceremony (must pre-book) and kimono dressing. Treat yourself to a sakura-bento (pre-order in advance, info here) and enjoy dance and musical performances. There will also be karate, judo, and iaido demonstrations. Tickets are $5—but it’s free for Nikkei Centre members, seniors 65+, and children and youth under 17.

Enjoy a one-hour storytime session in English and Sign Language at Burnaby Public Library, Tommy Douglas Branch. The event is free and open for children of all ages and abilities, accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

Head to BC Palette Art Studio in the City of Lougheed Mall for this painting workshop which will allow you to take a picture of your pet and turn it into a masterpiece. Email the studio a high-resolution portrait of your pet and they’ll sketch an image on your canvas before you arrive. Then, you’ll be able to paint away! Event is open to those 15+, and tickets are $59.

Do you need tech help? This event is for you. The Burnaby North Neighbourhood House is hosting a free digital cafe on April 3 that will help you get answers to any of your tech questions, from email to Excel and more. Support will be available in multiple languages. You can bring your own device or use one of the laptops or desktops provided by the Neighbourhood House. Reserve your spot online.

Amai Kuda has been praised for her “tantalizing Afro-soul combo of folk, roots, desert blues and African continental music,” as stated by NOW Magazine. Catch her live at Shadbolt Centre for the Arts on April 5. Tickets are $35 for general admission, and $30 for students and seniors.

From the Burnaby Art Gallery: “This exhibition is a survey of the intricate, meticulous and visually-compelling work of Vancouver-based artist Karin Jones. Jones’ work ‘Worn,’ on loan from the Royal Ontario Museum, is a Victorian mourning dress crafted from synthetic hair, evoking the complexity of African identity shaped by colonial displacement, slavery and oppression.”

This incredible Marvel exhibit featuring displays dedicated to all of your favourite Avengers is open at The Amazing Brentwood until late May.
