Two Burnaby pools open for summer season
Central Park and Kensington Park outdoor pools are opening to help residents beat the heat

The City of Burnaby has announced that the Kensington Park and Central Park outdoor pools are both set to open on Saturday, May 20.
The two pools are the first of the city’s four outdoor pools to open for the summer season.
Starting May 20, both Central and Kensington will be open for public swims on Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 5pm.
During the week, they will run loonie or lap swim programs, which both require fees for certain drop-in swims.
They will be working on a temporary schedule until May 29, when the remaining two pools at Robert Burnaby and MacPherson parks will open. At the end of May, they will begin new schedules.
Along with the outdoor pools, all remaining spray parks will open over the Victoria Day weekend.
The outdoor pool openings come on the tail end of a heat wave that hit Metro Vancouver and broke records across multiple cities for some of the hottest recorded May weather.
The heat wave resulted in the early opening of four spray parks at Confederation, Edmonds, Suncrest and Cameron parks.
Swimmers may want to take advantage of Central Park pool before a new all-weather cover is installed. Renovating the pool was recommended to the city in February due to the pool coming to the end of its lifetime.
Sun-heated wading pools will not be open until July 4.
