Winter holiday festivities in Burnaby

The festive season in Burnaby officially starts this month, with plans for a variety of activities, festivals and events. From markets to children’s activities, there’s something for everyone. Ready for some holiday cheer? Here are some of the highlights and places to go this holiday season!

Deer Lake Winter Festival

If you’re a fan of Christmas markets, local artisans, bakers, and artists, it is probably worth checking out the Deer Lake Winter Festival at Shadbolt Centre for the Arts. Organized by the Burnaby Arts Council, the Deer Lake Winter Festival is where to go to pick up some delicious holiday pastries and hand-crafted goodies like ceramics, wood crafts, and textile art to brighten up your holiday and as gifts for friends and family. This year, more than 45 local artisans will sell their creations at the market, giving Burnaby residents ample choice for gifts and holiday goods. Highlights include an Opus Art Supplies booth where festival goers can create their own handmade watercolour greeting cards and music by local artists, as well as plenty of baked treats and sweets. Admission to the family-friendly market is free and it runs from Fri. Nov. 24 to Sun. Nov. 26. 

Heritage Christmas

If you happen to be in the neighbourhood for the Deer Lake Winter Festival at Shadbolt, make sure to pop into the Burnaby Village Museum across the street, to check out the Heritage Christmas events. If you cannot make it that same weekend, you can check out the tree-lighting ceremony on Dec. 2 from 5-9pm. Heritage Christmas runs from Nov. 25 to Jan. 5, although it will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25. 

Edmonds Festival of Lights 

If you have kids and live close to the Edmonds Community Centre, check out the free, family-friendly event. Kids will get to hang out with Santa, watch stilt walkers, make holiday crafts and enjoy hot chocolate, popcorn and hot dogs. One lucky child will be chosen to help the mayor light up a tree at 5:15pm.
