Another week means more foodie news for you, Burnaby.
This week, we’ve got some details about two new cafes in the city, located very close to Metrotown.
The first is BreadxButter Cafe, which is expanding its locations in the city.
As first reported by local food blog Noms Mag, BreadxButter is set to open right across Metrotown on Kingsway.
In an Instagram post, BreadxButter stated that it “doesn’t have an exact time” it “will be sometime next month.”
BreadxButter also recently opened a location on Eastlake Drive. With menu items like the smoked salmon bagel, ham and cheese sourdough, and roast chicken sandwich, this cafe makes for a solid spot for those looking for a quick bite and coffee to take on the go.
BreadxButter is also known for its epic egg toast sandwiches, which are made with brioche bread, and come in a variety of options like truffle mushroom (cultivated mushroom, cheddar, scrambled eggs, truffle aioli), Hawaiian luau (spam, scrambled eggs, cheddar, crispy seaweed, kewpie mayo, smoked salmon (smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, green onion and kewpie mayo).
The next spot we’re excited about is GUULU Cafe. We’ve had our eyes on this cafe since January, and now it’s finally open.

GUULU Cafe has become a bit of an Instagram sensation for its very cute “Eggyaki” desserts.
These egg-shaped treats take after the traditional Japanese Taiyaki. They are made with a sweet batter (similar to the one used for pancakes) and come with sweet fillings. GUULU currently offers custard, Nutella, taro, and mochi flavoured fillings.
If you order six, they’ll come packed in an egg carton, adding the cuteness factor (currently, they’ve run out of cartons because of high demand but they should be restocked soon, local Instagram foodie blogger @morokokoko tells us).
Aside from Eggyaki, GUULU also specializes in bubble tea, making it a great new spot in the city for a sweet treat.
Because the Eggyaki is quite popular, be prepared for a bit of a wait at GUULU, which is located at 4621 Kingsway.
