A much-loved cafe in the Edmonds neighbourhood will be closing its doors next month.

The cafe specializes in pour-over coffee with blends from Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia and Nicaragua.

“We’ve tried but sometimes our best may still not be enough..?” wrote the cafe on Instagram.
“We’re really happy to have met, served, and shared many stories & laughter with you during this ~3 years journey.”
Cafe owner Eric MJ told Burnaby Beacon via email that the pandemic had an impact on the business.
“The pandemic definitely played a big part leading up to the closure, and would probably be the main cause as we’ve all been trying our best both behind the scenes, juggling multiple responsibilities while trying to stay true to our beliefs in quality, service, and our reasons for being in business, even though we were struggling to survive,” he said.
“Because of the pandemic, our team had to face many obstacles & dilemmas in decisions, the last of us had really gave it all our best and finally, as the owner, I have to make the hard decision to close down so my team does not suffer with me any longer.”
He added that although the cafe’s regular customers have been “saddened” by the closure “they were understanding and wanted the best for us.”
“We are blessed with such customers and heartbroken that not only did we have to disappoint them with continuous operating hour changes throughout the pandemic, but will no longer be able to serve them with all our heart,” said MJ.
On their Instagram post announcing the closure, the shop also encouraged anyone looking to take over the business to reach out to them.
MJ told the Beacon that there have been a few folks interested in the space, but “no commitments yet.”
“We took great care of the space with many improvements and really hoping it will find the right owner [who] will value it like we did and find success in their ventures,” he said.
Caritas 9 Coffee Roasters will be open from 9:30am to 3:30pm until April 1 (excluding March 27). MJ added that the shop’s online store–which specializes in coffee beans and products. — will remain open.
Be sure to check them out and show your support before they pour their last pour-over!
