The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has been called out to Burnaby after an incident where a man suffered serious injuries as he was being arrested by Burnaby RCMP.
RCMP told the IIO it was called to a residential unit in the 7600-block of 15th St just before 9:30pm on Feb. 27 for reports of a domestic disturbance.
“It is reported that the only person inside the unit, a man, would not come out as directed by police, and that he may have had weapons,” a release from the IIO said.
“About two hours later, the man exited the unit via a third-floor balcony where he was taken into custody with the assistance of a police service dog.”
The man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The IIO is called in to investigate cases of serious harm or death in BC involving police, and will look into whether police actions or inactions contributed to the man’s injury.
