RCMP to teach commercial drivers about safety
Two educational sessions will take place at the Burnaby RCMP detachment on Mar. 24
Burnaby RCMP is hosting two sessions on Mar. 24 for the drivers and operators of commercial vehicles such as box trucks and delivery vehicles. The two sessions aim to teach the drivers and operators of commercial vehicles about safety in a classroom environment. The sessions are aimed at drivers and operators of vehicles that require a Class 5 licence.
“We know many drivers and companies are doing their best to operate their commercial vehicles safely but may have questions we can help answer, which is why we are hosting these information sessions,” said Cst. Kevin Connolly, Burnaby RCMP’s designated commercial vehicle inspector in a statement. “During commercial vehicle checks, we often educate drivers roadside, but this is an opportunity to discuss commercial vehicle safety and best practices in an educational classroom environment.”

According to a press release, Burnaby RCMP will host the sessions in partnership with Delta Police, BC Highway Patrol, and WorkSafe BC. Representatives from these agencies will attend the sessions to provide information and answer questions.
“The education sessions will focus on pre-trip inspections, the Commercial Transport Act, truck routes, cargo securement, transporting live loads, vehicle defects, weight regulations, and more, with the goal of refreshing commercial vehicle operators and companies on important safety information meant to keep all road users safe,” Burnaby RCMP said in a release.
Drivers or operators interested in attending the sessions should email [email protected] to register. The free sessions will be available at 9am or 5pm on Mar. 24 at the Burnaby RCMP detachment at 6355 Deer Lake Ave.
According to the press release, the RCMP received positive feedback from attendees of its first sessions, which took place in November 2024.
“This education initiative is a new approach meant to supplement the ongoing work of the Lower Mainland Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (LMDCVE) Group, which generally focuses on enforcement,” the RCMP said.
