2 boys sentenced, 1 awaiting sentencing for stabbing last October

Three boys have pleaded guilty to a stabbing outside a North Burnaby party in October 2021.

Earlier this month, two of the three boys were sentenced for aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, while the third is still awaiting sentencing.

Police said in a news release that the three youth offenders—who can’t be identified due to their age—swarmed a 15-year-old boy shortly after he arrived at the party.

The three accused stabbed the boy in the torso and fled the area, however they were “quickly identified,” Burnaby RCMP said.

The victim has recovered from what were serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

“We want the public, and specifically youth, to know that we take these swarming assaults seriously,” said Cpl. Alexa Hodgins of the Burnaby RCMP. “Our officers worked tirelessly to identify and bring the offenders to justice. These types of attacks are not acceptable in our community.”

Police said there did not appear to be any social media posts of the assault.

RCMP did not elaborate on the sentences handed out to the two boys or what sentence is being sought for the third.
