Bastion Café is a Burnaby hidden gem you need to visit
You wouldn’t suspect one of the best sandwiches in Burnaby to be located inside a community centre, but this cafe serves up some amazing food and drinks.
Located inside the Christine Sinclair Community Centre is Bastion Café. It serves your typical cafe offerings like coffee and pastries, but also has some more unique offerings.
When we visited, we had a chance to try the iced caramel macchiato and a lobster melt sandwich. Yes, you heard right. Lobster. Melt. Sandwich.
The sandwich had a surprising amount of lobster for just $7.95 and also had plenty of cheese. It was all on a brioche bun with some spicy mayo, and it was delicious. I was not expecting such a tasty sandwich from a cafe located inside a fitness centre. The iced caramel macchiato was also very refreshing with plenty of caramel drizzle on top.
There is plenty of seating within the cafe alongside some seating options outside. Those looking to escape the heat will be pleased to hear that the cafe (along with the whole Christine Sinclair Community Centre) is air-conditioned. There are also seats outside the building in a very shady spot.
Bastion Café has plenty of iced drinks to help you keep cool during these hot months in case the air conditioning isn’t enough. You can get white mochas, and even nitro cold brew. You can also get iced tea lattes like matcha, London fog, and turmeric.
If you’re visiting in the early morning you can also grab a breakfast sandwich (but they’re served all day as well). They come on a brioche bun with egg and you can get them with avocado, chorizo, bacon, or sausage.
Overall, Bastion Café has a surprisingly large menu. It’s worth visiting the Christine Sinclair Community Centre just for this coffee spot. Bastion Café is open Monday to Sunday from 8am–7pm and you can find it as soon as you enter the centre.
