This cafe tucked away in a plant shop is a Burnaby hidden gem

Tucked away inside Gardenworks on Marine Drive is Café at Mandeville, one of the best hidden gems in Burnaby. You wouldn’t expect there to be a cafe inside a plant shop, but once you go you’ll be dreaming about coming back.

When you enter Gardenworks you’ll immediately take a left and enter Café at Mandeville. There’s a tiny counter where you can order with friendly staff and there’s also plenty of seating just beyond that. You can choose to either stay inside or venture out onto the gorgeous patio and enjoy a morning coffee around all the plants.

While the ambience is great, you would not expect a yummy home-cooked breakfast from a cafe inside a gardening store. Yet Cafe at Mandeville has a surprisingly large breakfast and lunch menu with plenty of delicious options. You can’t go wrong with anything from their all-day breakfast menu.

The eggs Benedict is phenomenal and presented to you on a cute plate with a side of homestyle hash browns in a tiny basket. The hollandaise sauce was rich, buttery, and had a slight taste of lemon which was everything you could hope for from a hollandaise sauce. The yolk was nice and jammy inside and the hash browns were crispy and perfectly seasoned.

We had ordered the traditional eggs Benedict but you can also order Eggs Blackstone (with applewood smoked bacon, tomato, and avocado), California Eggs Benedict (with tomato, avocado, and arugula), or the Smoked Salmon Benedict (with wild BC smoked salmon, cream cheese, red onion, and fresh dill). If eggs Benedict isn’t your thing, you can also order traditional breakfast like their Bacon and Eggs or French Toast.

If you just want to take a break from plant shopping you can order a drink from their coffee menu. They have your classic coffee and tea, but also serve lattes and cappuccinos. If you have a sweet tooth, then the caramel latte is for you.

So whether you’re relaxing after a long day of plant shopping or just want to have a nice breakfast in a garden, Café at Mandeville is the place for you.
