What’s going on in Burnaby: Aug. 27-Sept. 4
Not sure what to do next week? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here are some Burnaby events you might want to check out.
Got some Burnaby happenings to recommend for our next list? Send us an email here.
Join the Willingdon Community Centre for its annual fair and movie night. This free event on Aug. 31 from 5-10pm will feature “community booths including the Lifesaving Society and FortisBC Street Team, along with family-friendly activities such as a bouncy castle, dinosaurs and face painting. Food trucks will be on-site as well.” After, enjoy a free screening of Sing 2 starting at 8pm.
Address: Willingdon Community Centre, 1491 Carleton Ave.
Are you someone who wants to start experimenting with mixology? Then join Heidi Kuhn, the founder of Mixers & Elixirs, for a workshop at the Burnaby Village Museum where you’ll learn to make shrubs (and don’t worry, we don’t mean the leafy kind). Shrubs are “fruit concentrate made with an intriguing blend of local fruits, organic apple cider vinegar, a touch of sugar and fresh herbs.” You’ll start by learning the history behind the drink before attempting to make your own creation. This event takes place on Aug. 27 from 10am-noon and costs $39 (all supplies are included). You can register for this event online or by calling 604-297-4565.
Address: Discovery Room at the Burnaby Village Museum, 6501 Deer Lake Ave.
Every Saturday from 10am-2pm is the Burnaby Farmers Market, but this next one is extra special. On Aug. 27, the Burnaby Beacon will have a booth where you’ll get the chance to meet our incredibly handsome TikTok star Marco Ovies (yes, he wrote that himself), alongside our managing editor Simran Singh and reporter Dustin Godfrey. We’ll also have tote bags to give out and a contest where you’ll have a chance to win some gift cards. There will, of course, be all the other great offerings at the farmers market, including a thumbprint insect art station at the Kids Tent.
Address: Burnaby City Hall, 4949 Canada Way
Join the Emprendedoras House Society on Sept. 3 for its Summer Sale Bazaar. There will be local vendors showcasing their amazing products. If you’re looking for “a nice gift, delicious food or just to have a fun day with your family and friends, this is a great opportunity.” This free event is happening from noon-6pm at the Lochdale Community Hall.
Address: Lochdale Community Hall, 490 Sperling Ave.
This is your last chance to enjoy Summer Cinemas and it’s ending off with a great movie, Ron’s Gone Wrong! You can enjoy this free family-friendly outdoor movie in Burnaby on Friday, Sept. 2 starting at 8:30pm at Civic Square.
Address: Civic Square, 6100 Willingdon Ave.
