Burnaby events

On Sept. 10 you can head over to the Confederation Seniors’ Centre for a flea market. There will be more than 50 different tables for you to browse. Admission is free and the event is from 9:30am–1:30pm. We promise this event will leave you flea-ling great (well, at least better than our terrible excuse for a pun).

Celebrate the South Burnaby Metro Club’s 70th anniversary on Sept. 10 at the Bonsor Park and Recreation Centre from noon to 4pm. There will be an anniversary cake cutting, live music by Robert Stewart and Rainshadow, face painting, clowns, magicians, and even bingo at 3pm. This event is free and open to everyone.

To celebrate National Cinema Day on Sept. 3, theatres across Canada are offering movies for $3. You can visit any Cineplex or Landmark Cinemas for this deal or one of the following theatres in BC:

Burnaby Lakes Rugby Club will host men’s and women’s teams from across the country on September 3 and 4 — all competing in the hopes of being crowned Canada’s best Australian rules football team. Everyone is encouraged to watch the games and there is even a chance for those interested in trying the sport. AFL Canada will be providing a free sixty-minute, introductory session on Sunday, September 4th at 12:15pm for both youth and adults at the Burnaby. Learn about labour history through displays and activities at the Burnaby Village Museum on Sept. 5. There will also be live entertainment and free carousel rides throughout the day. Admission to the museum is free and it’s open from 11am–4:30pm.

Whether you just want to learn more about the birds in your neighbourhood or are a pro bird watcher, you can join a park interpreter to watch the seasonal changes of birds at Burnaby Lake on Sept. 13 starting at 9am. This event is for anyone aged 15+ and you must register online to attend.

On Sept. 2 at 11am you can head over to the Lougheed Shopping Centre for a free cardio class open to all experience levels. This class will combine pop music with easy-to-follow moves and no equipment is required. You’re recommended to bring clean running shoes and workout attire, a water bottle (they promise you’re going to need it), and a positive spirit.
