Burnaby pop-up serves up delicious Mid-Autumn Festival desserts

Looking for a unique dessert in Burnaby? Tea Cubed is hosting a pop-up for the next four weeks at PriceSmart in Burnaby and it’s serving some delicious cakes and drinks.

The Beacon was invited to taste some of the new desserts on offer. We tried the Foggy Moon, which had a salted egg yolk ice cream puff with a London fog slush alongside two cakes: the blueberry lemon earl grey and mango coconut pandan.

Tea lovers will be happy to hear that the Foggy Moon had a very strong tea taste to it. It paired perfectly with the ice cream puff on top that had a soft outer shell and delicious salted egg yolk ice cream inside.

Our personal favourite was the blueberry lemon earl grey cake. It was creamy with a blueberry filling on top of a crispy wafer that added the perfect crunch. The mango coconut pandan cake also had a similar combination of soft creamy cake with pandan and mango filling and a crispy wafer on the bottom. We’d recommend trying both and seeing for yourself which one is your favourite.

Tea Cubed is a collaboration between three brands: Niche Creamery, Kukki Jar, and Thirstea Beverages. We got a chance to talk with Bella Ng from Niche Creamery about the collab.

“Niche Creamery does all the ice cream from the products while Thirstea does all your tea-based drinks, and Kukki Jar does all the pastries, the cakes, and the creampuffs,” she said.

But what makes Tea Cubed so special is the unique flavour pairings and what each company brings to the table. “We spend a lot of time in research and development with the flavour pairings,” said Ng. “Our newest one is the White Peach Oolong. It has white peach ice cream in the middle of the puff and then there is a raspberry rose compote on top. The oolong slush is a little different because Thirstea decided to add some black sugar to it for more depth and it almost tastes like a roasted oolong.”

Tea Cubed started in the summer of 2021 as a collaboration between the three companies before they decided to come together with PriceSmart to form the brand.

“We’re now back for mid-autumn and will be here for four weekends starting Aug. 19 all the way until Sept. 11 on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.”

So if you’re looking for some great desserts with unique flavour pairings, be sure to head over to Tea Cubed’s pop-up inside PriceSmart in Burnaby!
