What’s on the menu: New Burnaby restaurants on our radar

Looking for new Burnaby restaurants and cafes to try? The good news is that Burnaby’s foodie scene is buzzing. It’s not something you’d expect to hear being next-door neighbours to Vancouver, which is often seen as the foodie hub for the Lower Mainland, but there are some pretty exciting spots that are popping up in the city.

From Korean dessert cafes to a popular fried chicken spot, here are new Burnaby restaurants to look out for. And if you missed last month’s new restaurant list, you can check it out here.

This recently-opened Crystal Mall eatery serves up a variety of Chinese barbeque dishes ranging from vegetable skewers to assorted beef, chicken, and pork options. This is a great place to go if you’re looking for a meal to share with friends.Address: 1685-4500 Kingsway (Crystal Mall)

As first reported by Daily Hive, Nam Dae Moon is making its way to Burnaby very soon. Known for their Korean rice cakes and mochi balls, Nam Dae Moon is slated to open later this month on Royal Oak Avenue beside the SkyTrain station.Address: 108-6868 Royal Oak Ave

This wildly-popular KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) chain has signage up at 7531 Market Crossing right across the COBS Bread location. We’ve reached out for more details on when they are planning to open, but until then, we’ll be counting down the days until we can get our hands on their specialty flavours, including cheese snow and Padak Padak.

This international Korean dessert chain specializes in sweet toasts, waffles, bingsu (shaved ice with various sweet toppings), coffee, and tea. Sulbing’s Burnaby location is slated to open at 6346 Kingsway, and the company’s website said the location will be opening soon.

While this technically isn’t a new eatery in the city, this is a pretty exciting dessert pop-up we’re looking forward to at the end of the month. Tea Cubed Patisserie is hosting a Chinese New Year pop-up at Burnaby’s Station Square Pricemart Foods from Jan 28 to 31. Tea Cubed Patisserie’s Instagram stories have hinted at some of the specialty flavour combinations folks will be able to try, including Thai black sesame puff, Mandarin matcha cake, mango lychee ice cream puff, and pineapple ice cream puff.
