You can find delicious Korean corndogs at this Burnaby cafe

If you’re around the Lougheed Town Centre SkyTrain station, you need to visit Basak Cafe for the best Korean corn dogs. They also serve delicious waffles and great drinks, and it’s one of the cutest cafes in town.

We tried the Basak corndog and Mozza corndog with the potato crunch when we visited. It was the perfect combination of savoury and sweet with the filling and breading and had just a hint of sweetness from the sugar dusting on the outside. They also have a shelf full of sauces like honey mustard and mayo.

If you were on TikTok at the start of the pandemic, then you’ve probably heard of dalgona coffee. We tried Basak Cafe’s take on the drink, and it was surprisingly not too sweet. It had a strong coffee taste with hints of toffee and honeycomb. It had some crunchy dalgona cookie pieces on top that were also very enjoyable.

There is limited seating at Basak Cafe, with around ten tables that could probably seat 20–25 people. We visited right when they opened at noon on Tuesday and the cafe was already starting to fill up with some people. This spot is ideal if you’re looking to grab a quick snack, but if you’re looking to set up your laptop and get some work done we’d recommend visiting a different cafe in the area (like Standing Egg). Parking is also pretty limited in front of the store, but there is more parking in the area if you don’t mind the walk. However, transiting is by far the best way to get here. You can ride the SkyTrain to Lougheed Town Centre station and either take the 109 bus to SB North Rd @ Rochester St or walk 1o minutes from the SkyTrain.

If you’re looking for something on the sweeter side, Basak Cafe also serves “Chubby Waffles” which can only be described as a waffle dessert taco. You can get flavours like strawberry, green tea with red bean, chocolate Oreo, earl grey lavender, or a combination of any two flavours.

Basak Cafe is open from Tuesday to Sunday starting at 12 pm except for Friday and Saturday when they open at 1 pm. If you’re looking for your Korean corn dog fix, then Basak Cafe should be your next go-to place.
