Burnaby Readers’ Choice Awards: Best fried chicken
We're continuing with our Beacon's Readers' Choice Award category winners
Alright, Burnaby. We’ve announced the top restaurants from our 2023 Beacon’s Readers’ Choice Awards, presented by Tourism Burnaby. Now it’s time to highlight some more winners by category.
We’re breaking down the top three restaurant winners in each of the 32 categories included in this year’s awards, as voted by you.
Here are the winners of the best fried chicken in Burnaby.
First place: Chicko Chicken
With a shatteringly crisp exterior and juicy, tender interior, the Korean fried chicken at Chicko’s stands out among other varieties due to its unique double-frying method. Tossed in aromatic sauces and spice blends that strike a fine balance of sweet, spicy and umami, you’re bound to find one that makes your palate sing.
Address: 4429 Kingsway Unit 8, Burnaby
Second place: The Peri Peri Shack
Made from a base of spicy peri-peri peppers, the sauce used to coat Peri Peri Shack’s chicken is what brought this Portuguese takeout counter to fame. Though their chicken does not technically qualify as “fried”, the flavours that come from their fire grill are beloved by all chicken lovers alike.
Address: 6691 Hastings St., Burnaby
Third place: Church’s Chicken
Serving up the “taste of Texas in the Lower Mainland”, Church’s Chicken is famous for its traditional, Southern-style fried chicken. Though the menu is short and simple, consisting mostly of fried chicken combos, sandwiches and sides, the flavour and crisp from the chicken is far from basic.
Address: 4267 Lougheed Hwy, Burnaby
