Burnaby Readers’ Choice Awards: Best hidden gem winners
We’re continuing with our Beacon’s Readers’ Choice Award category winners
Alright, Burnaby. We’ve announced the top restaurants from our 2023 Beacon’s Readers’ Choice Awards, presented by Tourism Burnaby. Now it’s time to highlight some more winners by category.
We’re breaking down the top three restaurant winners in each of the 32 categories included in this year’s awards, as voted by you.
Here are the winners of the best hidden gems in Burnaby.
First place: The Peri Peri Shack
This quaint takeout and dine-in spot in Burnaby won’t be a hidden gem for much longer. Serving some of the finest flame-roasted chicken in the city, they’ve won multiple awards this year, arguably, for their spicy-sweet peri peri sauce alone. If you’re not a fan of spice they’ve got lots of other sauces to choose from, like citrus herb and mango.
Address: 6691 Hastings St., Burnaby
Second place: Olivo Cafe
Serving all-day breakfast and tacos in a bright, cozy dining space, eating at Olivo Cafe feels like dining in your own kitchen. Some of their menu items include birria eggs benedict and chilaquiles with sunny side up eggs for breakfast, as well as an extensive list of tacos, quesadillas and pastry items served all day, every day.
Address: 3871 N Fraser Way Unit 17, Burnaby
Third place: Cafe at Mandeville
Tucked away inside the Gardenworks garden centre, Cafe at Mandeville is an essential stop for both a delicious and aesthetically pleasing brunch experience. Classic diner options like bennies, grilled cheese sandwiches and chicken and waffles are served in a bright dining space decked out with hanging plants and fairy lights.
