Burnaby Readers’ Choice Awards: Best sandwich winners

We’ve announced the top restaurants from our 2023 Beacon’s Readers’ Choice Awards, presented by Tourism Burnaby. Now it’s time to highlight some more winners by category.

We’re breaking down the top three restaurant winners in each of the 32 categories included in this year’s awards, as voted by you.

Here are the winners of the best sandwiches in Burnaby.

First place: Cioffi’s Cucina

This Italian takeout counter is a Burnaby gem for hefty, hearty sandwiches, paninis, and ready-made hot meals. Sandwiches change seasonally, though some all-time favourites include their meatball, prosciutto provolone, braised short rib and braised oxtail with sharp cheddar, onions and arugula.

Second place: Big Star Sandwich Co.

Big Star Sandwich Co. opened their first store in 2013, and have since expanded all over B.C. with their award-winning sandwiches. Some flavours include hand-pulled turkey, slow roasted beef and deli cuts (with multiple variations on each type of protein) all built on their signature filone bread—a cross between a baguette and ciabatta.

Third place: Subway

As the biggest sandwich chain in the world, it’s no surprise that Subway remains a favourite with their iconic six-inch and foot-long subs. Some classics include their meatball sub, deli cold cut and Italian B.M.T (which stands for biggest, meatiest and tastiest). Don’t forget to grab one of their gooey chocolate chip cookies on your way out!
