La Forêt Bakery and Cafe recently announced its new Burnaby coffee shop, located at 6958 Palm Ave., is set to open on April 3. The new shop is conveniently located just a three-minute walk away from Royal Oak SkyTrain Station, making it the perfect spot to grab a coffee and pastry on the go. It’s also located just minutes away from its original outpost at 6848 Jubilee Ave.
La Forêt said the new location will serve as its headquarters and main production facility, and will also be used to start its wholesale and catering services.

The much-loved The Bao Place has found a new location in the city and looks to re-open soon. The Bao Place announced the closure of its Kingsway location in June 2022, but the owners told the Beacon at the time they were taking a bit of a hiatus before looking for new digs. On Jan. 22, The Bao Place announced on its Facebook page that it has secured a new location at 7353 Edmonds St., next to Grand Food Mart. In a recent comment on its Facebook page, The Bao Place said that it is currently waiting for the city to approve its applications and renovation permits, so it still may be a while until it opens its doors.

A taste of California is coming to Burnaby.
Birdies Eats & Drinks, a new concept by Earls, will be taking over the former Earls Bridge Park space at 3850 Lougheed Highway. The Earls team told the Beacon that Birdies Eats & Drinks will be a “California-inspired” eatery with a “sunny attitude and a laid-back atmosphere.” It’s expected to open its doors sometime this summer.
Closed
Sadly, this cozy Royal Oak cafe has closed. Burnaby Beacon reader Eric informed us that the doors to Camellia Tea & Coffee have been shuttered for a few weeks now. The Beacon tried to reach out to the shop but its phone also seemed to be disconnected.
According to its website, the Cobs Bread at Market Crossing is temporarily closed for renovations.
